This picture of Rishi Dayanand was taken when he stayed at Meerut while going to Haridwar for the Kumbh Mela of Samvat 1924 (year1867). Rishi Dayanand appears to be 35 – 40 years of age and his face is very glowing. I found this picture in Meerut in year 1926 while investigating the letters of Rishi Dayanand.

According to old Aryans , this picture of Rishi Dayanand was taken at the end of Kumbh Mela at Haridwar in Vikrami Samvat 1924 (year1867), where a flag denouncing hypocricy was put up on the hut. On the basis of this picture, a larger picture was printed by Chitrashala Poona. I saw this picture with Mahashay Jhunni lal (aged) of Farrukhabad on 25 December 1926 .

In Samadhi state (deep cocentration) wearing only loins (copeen)
This picture is around Samvat 1925 (year 1868). In this, the sage is sitting naked (wearing drawer only) on the stool in a samadhi posture (meditative state). There is ash on his short haired beard. This picture is said to have been taken at the large resting place of Lala Shyamlal Sidhgopal Jagannath on the banks of the Ganga in Farrukhabad. I got this picture from Br. Chandraprakash s/o Rai Bahadur Durga Das while investigating the letters of Rishi Dayanand on 31 January 192 from an old album.

Rishi Dayanand was got photographed by Sh. Krishan Rao Golwalkar, Additional Commissioner of Jabalpur when he took him to his place in Ashwin Samvat 1931 (October1874) after getting him fully dressed and making him sit on a chair alongwith a cane with bent handle placed on the table near him. Devendra Babu himself went there and saw this picture.

This picture was taken to Girgaon, Bombay in Samvat 1931 (year 1875). In this, Rishi Dayanand is sitting on a chair dressed in clothes, has a turban tied on his head and is also carrying a bent cane. It was discovered by Shri Swami Satyanand ji from Bombay. Due to the tearing of this painting, some part of the leg has been destroyed.

This picture was prepared by Babu Harishchandra Chintamani on the occasion of his second visit to Bombay in Samvat 1932 (year1875). This is mentioned in page 336 of the biography compiled by Babu Devendra Nath. In this picture, Rishi Dayanand is sitting on a chair with his face facing one side wearing clothes and turban. I saw it on 28 November 1926 near Kunwar Gangacharan ji of Sahkare locality of Bareilly.

Wearing a Turban, sitting, with a Book open
In this picture, Rishi Dayanand is sitting wearing a turban with a knot, a book is open in front of him and a stick with a silver handle is kept nearby. The body is becoming somewhat weak due to diarrhea. This photo was taken in 1936 (year 1879). A small picture of it was given to Pt. Bhagwdatt ji by Mahatma Hansraj ji after receiving it from Rai Bahadur Sansar Chand ji who got it enlarged and installed in the Lalchandra Library of Dayanand College.

In Samadhi Posture
This picture was taken in Meerut in Samvat 1936 (1879). This photo is printed in the book ‘Kalyan Marg ka Pathik’ written by Mahatma Munshiram ji (later Shri Swami Shraddhanand ji). While researching the letters, a copy of it was given to me by Babu Jagatnarayan , nephew of R. B. Chhedi Lal (ex- contractor, Meerut) of Kanpur on 8 March 1927. Jagatnarayan ji had taken out this photo alongwith other pictures (Rama Bai, Colonel) from an old album.

In this picture, Rishi Dayanand is wearing all the clothes, holding a silver-handled stick in his hand. It is said to have been taken in Dehradun in Kartik or Margashirsha Samvat 1937 (November 1880). It is clear from page 624 of the biography compiled by Shri Devendrababu that a photograph of Rishi Dayanand was taken in Dehradun in Samvat 1937 (1880).

This picture was taken in the first half of Samvat 1940 (year 1883) in Shahpura. Late Maharaja Naharsingh ji had given it to Mahashay Govindram Hasanand for publication in Arya Chitravali on the occasion of Mathura centenary. This picture is published in ‘Dayanand Granth Sangrah’ the special issue of ‘Ved Prakash’ Delhi in Samvat 2010.

In this picture, Rishi Dayanand is sitting on a chair, wearing wooden slippers and Br. Ramanand is standing beside and three books are kept on the table. This picture must have been taken in Shahpura in early Samvat 1940 . There is mention of sending this picture to Ramanand in the letter written by Rishi Dayanand dated Vaishakh Shukla 4 Samvat 1940 (10 May 1883).
