• Swami Shraddhanand

    Immortal freedom fighter, great educationist, immortal martyr Swami Shraddhanand was a prominent follower of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati ji. Inspired by Maharishi’s teachings, he established his Gurukuls, worked continuously for women’s education, founded Akhil Bhartiya Dalitoddhar Sabha for the upliftment of Dalits and Bhartiya Shuddhi Sabha to help millions of Hindus who became Muslims and Christians to return home after being victims of seduction and temptation. Standing with his chest raised facing the bayonets in protest against the Rowlatt Act, starting his speech by reciting the Veda Mantra from Jama Masjid is a wonderful example of his fearlessness and indomitable courage. Swami Shraddhanand, who paved the way for national service and human welfare, was shot by a treacherous man named Abdul Rashid and he became immortal forever.

  • Pandit Lekhram

    Pandit Lekhram, a great disciple of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, great thinker, preacher, writer and dedicated worker of Arya Samaj, was born in 1858. He devoted his entire life for the propagation of Arya Samaj. He is especially famous for his debate and refutation of propaganda of Mirza Gulam Ahmed, a leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community. Pandit Lekhram, stopped Hindus from converting, without caring for his life and became the pioneer of purification campaign. He visited many places in India for the purpose of writing the biography of Mahasrshi Dayanand, hence he got an adjective ‘Arya Musafir’ added to his name. Pandit Lekhram used to save Hindus from becoming Muslims. A fanatic Muslim fraudulently murdered him in Lahore on 3 March 1897, on the day of Eid, under the pretext of ‘purification’.

  • Pandit Gurudutt Vidyarthi

  • Mahatma Hansraj

    Inspired by the inspiration of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati ji, pillar of Arya Samaj, rich in philanthropic nature, great educationist and social worker, Mahatma Hansraj remained dedicated to the service of the nation and human development throughout his life. He along with Pandit Gurudutt Vidyarthi ji set a historical record by establishing “Dayanand Anglo Vedic School” in Lahore on 1 June 1986 in the memory of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati ji. He was also the unpaid Principal of DAV College for 25 years and continued to provide guidance to the youth by building human beings. He faced the toughest adversities many times in his life but never compromised with the Vedic religion, principles, beliefs and traditions. He had dedicated his entire life to human service.

  • Shyamji Krishna Verma

    Shyamji Krishna Verma, the leading member of Arya Samaj, established by Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati in Bombay in 1875, has made valuable contribution to the independence of the Indian nation. Actually, inspired by Maharishi Dayanand ji, after obtaining M.A. and Bar-at-Law degrees from Oxford, he was also a professor of Sanskrit in Pune. Swatantryaveer Savarkar also got inspired by him and participated in revolutionary activities. But as a result of the patriotism taught by Maharishi Dayanand ji, you established India House in London, which was a major center for mutual meeting and diverse discussions among Indian students going to England to study. In this way, even while living in England, you created revolutionaries for India’s independence and set a record for liberating Mother India.

  • Sardar Arjun Singh

    Sardar Arjun Singh ji, the revered grandfather of immortal martyr Sardar Bhagat Singh, had the privilege of personally seeing Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, the founder of Arya Samaj. Influenced by the Vedic thoughts of Maharishi, not only he but his entire family became Arya Samajis. He used to perform Yagya every day and used to travel carrying the Havan Kund and material with him. He got performed the sacred thread ceremony of his grandsons Jagat Singh and Bhagat Singh under the guidance of Pandit Loaknath Tarkvachaspati an eminent scholar of Arya Samaj and had also given them the resolve and values to dedicate themselves for the freedom of the country. To prove that the Sikh Gurus were the followers of the traditions of the Vedas, he wrote a certified book in Urdu language “Guru Sahiban were the advocates of the Vedas” and got it published by Varman & Company, Lahore. He kept propagating the teachings of Maharishi Dayanand , Arya Samaj and Vedas throughout his life.

  • Lala Lajpat Rai

    Punjab Kesari Lala Lajpat Rai was a great social reformer, educationist and revolutionary. Lala Lajpat Rai, one of the trinity of Lal Bal Pal of the Garam Dal, took inspiration from Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati and devoted his entire life to the country’s independence, indigenous education and public welfare and was ultimately martyred by the batons of British soldiers. Sardar Bhagat Singh and Chandrashekhar Azad took revenge of Lala ji’s death and answered the brick with stone. Lala Lajpat Rai, the founder of “Punjab National Bank,” “Lakshmi Insurance Company,” “LIC”, Tilak People’s Society, wrote that it was true that if he had not joined Arya Samaj, whatever he was, would not have happened.

  • Bhai Parmanand

    Bhai Parmanand who was Inspired by the patriotic teachings of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, born on 4 November 1876 in a Mohyal Brahmin family of Punjab. He was a descendant of Sikh martyr Bhai Matidas and was a staunch Arya Samaji. He was active in Gadar Party of Lala Hardyal, dedicated to the Indian freedom struggle, in America. After returning to India in 1913, he was given death sentence in the Lahore Conspiracy case. After reading this news, Pandit Ramprasad Bismil had decided to become a revolutionary. His death sentence was changed into life imprisonment by Lord Hardinge. Later he became the Chancellor of the National College of Lahore and was also the President of the Hindu Mahasabha. First as a staunch Arya Samaji, then as a revolutionary and nationalist, Bhai Parmanand was always engaged in the service of the country.

  • Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil

    Singing this immortal song “The desire of sacrifice of life (Sarfaroshi) is now in our hearts”, many youth became immortal laughingly by death sentence for the freedom of the country. The childhood of Amar Shaheed Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil, the author of this song, was full of bad habits but as soon as he came in contact with Arya Samaj and read Satyarth Prakash, his life became golden. He resolved to liberate the country and sounded the trumpet of revolution by bringing patriots in various provinces under the Hindustan Republican Association. The British government used to rob the Indians, he openly challenged the British government by robbing the government treasury near Kakori station. While struggling for freedom, he finally embraced the gallows.

  • Khudiram Bose

    Inspired by the patriotic revolutionaries of Arya Samaj, Khudiram Bose was a great brave sacrificer. He actively participated in the freedom movement right from his student days and sacrificed everything to destroy the British Empire. To fulfill the resolve of India’s independence, you not only distributed pamphlets but also attacked the British oppressors with bombs. At the tender age of 19, he went to gallows laughingly. At that time his popularity was so high that the countrymen considered him as their idol and started wearing dhoti with a border designed in his name.

  • Kartar Singh Sarabha

    Sardar Kartar Singh Sarabha, born in Ludhiana, Punjab, was a prominent revolutionary among the great martyrs of Arya Samaj. He came in contact with Lala Hardayal ji in America and with his inspiration, worked for the independence of India while holding the post of President of Ghadar Party. He was the inspiration for many revolutionaries in India. He was tried for treason in Lahore and martyred smilingly at the young age of 19.

  • Sardar Ajit Singh

    Sardar Ajit Singh, son of Sardar Arjun Singh, a great disciple and follower of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati ji and uncle of immortal freedom fighter Sardar Bhagat Singh, was a great patriot. He openly opposed the wrong policies of the British and also served the sentence of exile along with Lala Lajpat Rai. He traveled from Iran to countries like Turkey, Germany, Brazil, Switzerland, Italy, Japan etc. and established Azad Hind Fauj. He introduced Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose to Hitler, during this time he conquered 40 languages and when he came to India in 1947, his wife also asked him many questions. On 15 August 1947, at 4 am, he became immortal forever.

  • Ras Bihari Bose

    Under the inspiration of Arya Samaj Revolutionaries , Rash Bihari Bose played an active role in the Gadar conspiracy for independence against the British Raj and in the organization of Azad Hind Fauj, not only conducted many revolutionary activities in India but even while living abroad, he helped India get independence and remained engaged in the endeavor throughout his life. Rash Behari Bose played an important role in planning to throw a bomb on the then Viceroy Lord Charles Hardinge in Delhi, plotting mutiny and later going to Japan and establishing the Indian Independence League and Azad Hind Fauj. He also established the Japanese branch of Hindu Mahasabha and became its president. Later, you became immortal while serving the cause of India’s independence from Tokyo, Japan.

  • Sukhdev Thapar

    Sukhdev Thapar has a prominent place among the immortal martyrs who sacrificed everything for the freedom of the Indian nation. He was born in an Arya Samaji family of Sh. Ram Lal ji of Ludhiana on 15th May 1907. He was a member of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association and along with Rajguru and Bhagat Singh, he murdered J P Sanders to avenge the martyrdom of Lala Lajpat Rai, the chief disciple of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati Ji. He was involved in revolutionary activities for the independence of the country. He remained continuously active and on 23rd March 1931, he was hanged.

  • Shivraj Hari Rajguru

    One of the major revolutionaries of the Indian freedom struggle, Shivraj Hari Rajguru sacrificed his life by kissing the noose laughingly on 23rd March 1931 along with Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev, was born on 24 August 1908 in Pune, Maharashtra. While studying in Varanasi, he got the inspiration to be dedicated to the freedom of India from the immortal martyr Chandrashekhar Azad, who was filled with Arya Samaj values.

  • Chandrashekhar Azad

    Chandrashekhar Azad, who became active in the freedom struggle at the age of just 15, achieved immortality with self-respect at the age of 25. He is known as Azad because of his fearlessness. Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil was an Arya Samajji, hence by living with him Chandrashekhar Azad was also influenced by the ideology of Arya Samaj. Chandrashekhar Azad, who practiced celibacy wanted to librate the country through the path of revolution. He used to say that the ghosts of kicks do not believe in words. Chandrashekhar was free, remained free and while fighting for Swaraj, he got martyred with his own bullet and proved that free people never get martyred after being subjugated.

  • Bhai Balmukund

    Bhai Balmukund (1889 – 8th May 1915) was a unique follower of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati ji and cousin of the great revolutionary Bhai Parmanand ji. Bhai Balmukund was the founding member of the Gadar Party. He sacrificed everything for Indian independence. He was sentenced to death for his important role in Delhi Conspiracy Case by British Government and hanged.

  • Dr. Swami Satyaprakash Saraswati

    Dr. Swami Satyaprakash Saraswati, the famous Vedic scholar of Arya Samaj, was born on 24th September 1905. He was an Indian chemist, spiritual-religious thinker, writer and speaker. He spent most of his life as head of Chemistry Department at Allahabad University.   • Swami Sarvadananda

    Swami Sarvadanand ji was born in 1855 in Hoshiarpur, Punjab.     A profound scholar of the Vedas, a strong supporter of teaching Sanskrit grammar according to the Paniniya method, honoured with the title of Rashtriya Pandit, Pandit Brahmadutt Jigyasu was born on 14th October 1882 in Mallupota village of Jalandhar district. Jigyasu ji studied Sanskrit in the company of Swami Purnanand ji, a great scholar of Ashtadhyayi. After getting education in grammar, he started studying Arsh texts from 1920 in the Sadhu Ashram Harduaganj established by Swami Sarvadanand. In 1921, this ashram was shifted to Gandasingh Nala, Amritsar under the name of Virjanandashram.

  • Pandit Loknath Tarkvachaspati

    Author of Yajya prayer “Yajyarupa Prabhu, enlighten our feelings”, constant self-study of Vedic scriptures, simple, easy, strong debater, scholar of esoteric secrets, preacher, Pt. Loknath Tarkvachaspati ji was originally a resident of Sindh province, but his preaching area was Punjab. He was also a preacher of Arya Pradeshik Sabha Punjab. He was a unique interpreter of Vedic principles, an expert in logic and a passionate scholar who loved rituals. Mythological scholars used to tremble in front of him.

  • Dr. Ramnath Vedalankar

    Pride of Arya Samaj, Dr. Ramnath Vedalankar was a renowned penetrating scholar of Vedic literature. His education was completed at Gurukul Kangri University, Haridwar, established by Swami Shraddhanand Ji. While being a teacher of subjects like Vedas, Vedanga, Philosophy, Poetry, Sanskrit literature etc. and Head of Sanskrit Department in the same institution for 38 years, he also worked as Registrar, Acharya and Vice Chancellor from time to time.   • Pandit Bhagavadatta

    Pandit Bhagavad Dutt ji, a scholar of Vedic scriptures, researcher and skilled writer, was an active and dedicated officer of Arya Samaj. He was an elected member of ‘Paropakarini Sabha’, the highest organization of Arya Samaj and also a member of ‘Scholar Committee’. He had the reputation of being an excellent scholar and speaker. He also used to travel across the country in Arya Samaj programs. For this reason you became famous by the name of ‘Pandit Bhagavad Dutt’.

  • Acharya Ramdev

    Selfless, ascetic Acharya Ramdev ji, who established Kanya Gurukul Mahavidyalaya (part of Gurukul Kangri University) in Dehradun in 1923, was born on 31 July 1881. He was an Arya Samaj leader, educationist, historian, freedom fighter and a great orator. After doing original research regarding Indian history, he published his famous book ‘Bharatvarsha ka Itihas’ in Hindi (history of Bharatvarsh).

  • Acharya Bhadrasen

    Acharya Bhadrasen ji, a disciple of the great scholar of Arya Samaj, Acharya Pandit Brahmadatt Jigyasu ji, had unwavering loyalty towards Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati. Having gained fame in Sanskrit grammar, yoga practice, meditation, asana and pranayam, he stayed in Lonavala Yoga Institute and Centre. The Mahant of that institute wanted to make you the owner of the Yoga institute, but following Maharishi Dayanand ji, you rejected this big proposal and became a preacher and priest of Arya Samaj and served the society by teaching Sanskrit and yoga training.

  • Munshi Premchand

    Munshi Premchand, who considered Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati as his ideal and was very popular in Hindi literature and novel writing, was born on 31 July 1880 in Varanasi. He worked dedicatedly for the publication of the books of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, also wrote skillfully on widow remarriage in accordance with the beliefs of Arya Samaj. Glimpses of Maharishi’s thoughts and inspirational teachings are visible at many places in his literature. It is a different matter that the authors writing on Munshi Premchand did not allow his association with Maharishi Dayanand and Arya Samaj to come to light, but “Aapka Chitra” and “Aapki Tasveer” are not only his best stories but also the true inspirations of his life. Munshi Premchand was an ardent devotee of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati and a golden chapter in the glorious history of Arya Samaj and will continue to inspire us for a long time.

  • Mahashay Rajpal

    Mahashay Rajpal ji, an ardent devotee of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati ji, a keen propagator of the beliefs, principles and traditions of Arya Samaj, spreader of Vedic religion, culture and values, was born in 1885 in Amritsar. He was an Arya Samaji leader of Lahore, a publisher, Hindi server and a great logical scholar. When two books were published by bigoted people on Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati and Yogiraj Shri Krishna with wrong language and sentiments, then in protest against it he published Rangeela Rasool, in which he was both convicted and acquitted, but on 6 April 1929, you were attacked with knives and became immortal forever.

  • Pandit Atmaram Amritsari

    The great scholar of Arya Samaj, Pandit Atmaram Amritsari was a social reformer. After the martyrdom of Pt. Lekhram in 1897, Pt. Atmaramji compiled the material related to the life of Swami Dayanand collected by Pt. Lekhram by traveling throughout India and gave it the form of a big book. After making the so-called Shudras Vedic religious people, he also accepted food and water from their hands in the gathering.   • Sarla Thakral

    Sarla Thakral, the first Indian woman pilot to fly in the heights of the sky, was born on 8th August 1914 in an Arya Samaji family in Delhi. She went to Lahore for higher education and at the age of 16 got married to air mail pilot Mr. P.D. Sharma. With his inspiration she became India’s first lady pilot at the age of just 21. She obtained the aviation pilot’s license in 1936 and joined the flying club wearing a saree and made a record of flying an aeroplane. She died on 15th March 2008.

  • Rakesh Sharma

    India’s first and world’s 138th astronaut Rakesh Sharma, the grandson of Pandit Loknath Tarkavachaspati ji, the exclusive disciple of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati ji, was born on 13th January 1949 in Patiala district of Punjab state. Rakesh Sharma joined the Air Force in 1966 and became fighter pilot in 1970, achieved significant success with “MiG aircraft” in the 1971 war. In 1984, he remained in space for 8 days in a joint operation of ISRO and the Soviet Union. On April 3, 1984, Rakesh Sharma was launched in Salyut T-11 along with two other Soviet astronauts. In this flight and in the Salyut 7 space station, he photographed India and when seen from space, described India as ‘Best of all the places’. The Government of India honoured him with the Ashoka Chakra.

  • Acharya Baldev

    Acharya Baldev ji, the great personality of Arya Samaj, was a grammarian, Niruktacharya, Upanishad, Darshanacharya, Ayurvedacharya and a penetrating scholar of Vedas. In his presence Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev ji, Acharya Balkrishna ji, Acharya Gyyaneshwar ji, Swami Vivekananda Saraswati ji, Dr. Satish Prakash ji, Dr. Shobhanand ji, Dr. Yoganand Shastri ji, Acharya Aryanresh ji, Acharya Akhileshwar ji, Br. Acharya Rajsingh Arya ji etc. have increased the pride of Arya Samaj at the world level by getting education from Arsh education system and are continuously taking the service work forward.

  • Swami Satyapati Parivrajak

    Swami Satyapati Parivrajak, the famous monk of Arya Samaj, was born in 1927. He was a great scholar of Yoga Darshan, writer and preacher. His former name was ‘Munshi Khan’. He is also known for traveling across India to give practical training in yoga. He established Darshan Yoga Mahavidyalaya on a vast land at a place called Rojar, about 90 kilometers from Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

  • Maharana Sajjan Singh

    Mewar King Maharana Sajjan Singh, descendant of Maharana Pratap, was a great devotee and follower of Maharshi Dayanand. Due to the efforts of Kaviraja Shyamaldas and Pandit Mohandas Vishnulal Pandya, Maharana Sajjan Singh was eager to meet Maharshi Dayanand. One day when Maharshi Dayanand was giving a lecture in Mewar, Maharana Sajjan Singh sat among the audience like a normal person. When Maharshi Dayanand asked about this exceptionally brilliant man, Shahpura King Nahar Singh introduced him. Later, when Maharshi Dayanand stayed in Mewar for more than 6 months, Maharana Sajjan Singh used to be present daily to benefit from his teachings. He acquired general knowledge of Sanskrit language from Maharshi Dayanand and read many chapters of Manusmriti, Nyayadarshan, Vaisheshikadarshan and Yogadarshan. With the inspiration of Maharshi Dayanand, Maharana Sajjan Singh did many reforms in his state and made Hindi the official language of Udaipur. Maharshi Dayanand nominated Maharana Sajjan Singh as the president of his successor Paropkarini Sabha.

  • Rao Yudhishthir Singh

    Rewari King Rao Yudhishthir Singh, son of Rao Tularam, who showed bravery in the rebellion of 1857, first met Maharshi Dayanand in Delhi during the Delhi Darbar. At that time, he invited Maharshi Dayanand to his city. Later, when Maharshi Dayanand arrived in Rewari, Rao Yudhishthir Singh left no stone unturned in welcoming him. Rao Yudhishthir Singh was greatly impressed after listening to the lectures of Maharshi Dayanand and he invited the people of his kingdom from far and wide so that they too could take advantage of them. Influenced by Maharshi Dayanand’s ideas of cow protection, Rao Yudhishthir Singh established India’s first cow shed in Rewari with the help of Maharshi Dayanand.

  • Raja Jaikrishna Das

    Raja Jaikrishna Das was the inspiration behind the creation of Maharshi Dayanand’s main book ‘Satyarth Prakash’. Inspired by the thoughts of Maharshi Dayanand, King Jaikrishna Das prayed to him that if he writes down his thoughts and teachings in the form of a book, then many people will benefit from it. Raja Jaikrishna Das also assured to bear the entire burden of printing and publishing this future book. King Jaikrishna Das appointed a Maharashtrian Brahmin to transcribe the book and Maharshi Dayanand started the composition of Satyarth Prakash. Under the supervision of Raja Jaikrishna Das, 1000 copies of the first edition of Satyarth Prakash were printed. Whenever Maharshi Dayanand went to Moradabad, he used to stay at the house of King Jaikrishna Das. Maharshi Dayanand appointed Raja Jaikrishna Das as a member of his successor Paropkarini Sabha.

  • Raja Nahar Singh

    Among the disciples of Maharshi Dayanand in the royal class, the name of Shahpura King Sir Nahar Singh is most notable. He had lost his faith in Hindu religion under the influence of a Christian teacher, but after getting his doubts cleared from Maharshi Dayanand in Chittor, he again became firm towards his religion. It was he who introduced Maharana Sajjan Singh of Udaipur to Maharshi Dayanand. He read some parts of Manu Smriti, Yoga Darshan and Vaisheshika Darshan from Maharshi Dayanand and with his inspiration did many reform works in Shahpura state. With the inspiration of Maharshi Dayanand, he established Yagyashala in the royal palace of Shahpura. On behalf of All India Kshatriya Mahasabha, he made sure to include the Malkan Rajputs in the society with respect if they are purified. For years, he discharged the duties of the head of Paropkarini Sabha etc.
